Dinner party, anyone? If you’ve been looking for home inspiration for those who love to entertain, you’ve found it. It is easy to picture making delectable meals in this fantastic kitchen. That stovetop is urging us to try out some new recipes of our own. Tribe Design Group designed the home based on the family’s lifestyle and preferences. Based out of Austin, TX, they have raised the bar on interior design projects like this. We suddenly feel like doing some redecorating. Sign us up!

Tribe Design Group tells us all about this home tour for those who love to entertain,

The home was designed for a family of five that is very busy, particularly entertaining the friends and families of three kids. The kitchen in particular needed to be durable, functional, and comfortable, but also alluring. It’s the heart of the home, so Tribe added a large island to seat the entire family. The space needed to feel warm and earthy while being clean and modern. Objects from the family’s travels and the outdoors that reflect their personality were thoughtfully selected.

The family prefers a clean, minimalist vibe so Tribe chose four materials to work with; concrete, white oak, marble, and brass. Concrete floors were selected because of their durability. Spills are easy to clean up and the kids can come in and out of the pool dripping wet without any worries. A rift-sawn white oak was selected for the cabinets to warm up the concrete floors, which feel organic and cozy. The Calacatta marble makes the space feel light and airy. The light fixture, range hood detail, faucets, and hardware are all burnished brass, which feels earthier than shiny brass.

Finally, have you been looking to make a change to your home? This may be the sign you needed. We have tons of home design inspiration for you to choose from. Next, check out this Coastal Meets Farmhouse Home Tour!

Take a step into this organic California style home tour with us! Nicole Salceda of the design firm Eye For Pretty transformed this space into any homeowner’s dream. Nicole’s career in interiors began as a passion for making polished, functional design more accessible. She left her job as an elementary school teacher to see those spaces come to life firsthand.

What started as a handful of clients quickly became a rapidly growing portfolio full of homes in her signature warm minimalist style. Now, having been through a dream home remodel of her own, she has even more perspective when it comes to the client experience. You can see that come to life firsthand in this shoot!

Nicole Salceda of the design firm Eye For Pretty tells us all about this organic California style home tour,

This young family moved from the city. They wanted to start their new suburban life in a home that still felt fresh and modern. We started designing with that in mind and used a mixture of light and bright finishes paired with moodier tones to mix things up. For example most of the home is painted Chantilly Lace but grounded all the white with a deep midnight color on the kitchen cabinets. We also paired a white quartz island material with a saturated soapstone on the perimeter cabinets. A mixture of black and brass metals throughout the home keep things current and add interest to each space. A deep green tile in a geometric pattern was laid in the kids bath for a fresh take on the traditional shared bathroom.

This home’s style is transitional mixed with the organic California vibe we are known for. The home is very pulled together and elevated but nothing feels overly done or like you can’t touch things. Our goal is alway to create spaces that feel as good as they look and this home definitely accomplished that! There are so many details to love but I especially love the integrated soapstone sink in the kitchen. It’s an unexpected design element that really takes the kitchen to the next level! I imagine it’s a conversation piece and a showstopper for sure.

As the designing continued,

To create a home like this I recommend starting with a neutral foundation and then add layers by using fabrics, textures and color to warm up the space.  We also like to incorporate different wood tones and paint colors that compliment each other. Creating home takes time but simple additions like textiles and rugs really pull everything together.

Our clients wanted more color in this home than we are used to and we loved it! From the terracotta tile floors in the powder bath, to the moody green-gray color on the walls, to the putty color mudroom tile and millwork the use of color was well thought out and intentional. It didn’t smack you in the face but it definitely made an impact!

This makes us want a remodel of our own…Take a few more looks, and you’ll be debating it as well. Are you looking for even more home inspiration? Check out this other fantastic home tour!

Take a step into this spectacular bohemian-meets-farmhouse home tour! The contrast between the various light woods, blues and gray hues, and slight florals is stunning. We love that unique blue bathroom! The natural light shines into each different section of the home. From the laundry room to the kitchen, a common theme is apparent and tasteful. Once you step into this interior design project, you may feel the need to do a little redecorating…

Davis Interiors showcases this spectacular bohemian-meets-farmhouse home tour,

Jennifer Davis was initially referred to homeowners Karissa and Brian Hogan when they listed their house for the real estate market last fall. Davis’s staging business created an occupied stage, where they staged the home using 90% of existing furnishings and supplemented the other 10%. The Hogans were so blown away with the transformation that they reached out to Davis to help them with the selections and furnishings for the new home they were building.

Since helping them with their own home, Davis has established a partnership between Brian, who owns Hogan Custom Homes, and her interiors business. Davis Interiors has helped clients with selections in the building process, and it has almost always turned into a full-service interior design project.

The overall vibe of the home is light and airy. The large family, including four boys who all play hockey, needed durable yet beautiful materials. The kitchen feels modern yet has a nod to traditional roots. The laundry room and mudroom are elevated since they are right off the central area. The white oak stepped up the design and made it feel fresh. The specialty lighting adds a special touch to each space. The powder bath pulled the homeowner out of her comfort zone with dark, bold wallpaper.

If you are as obsessed with home tours as us, you have come to the right place. We have tons of inspiration for your every interior design need. Check out this Behind The Scenes Look At Light And Dwell Interior Design!

‘Tis the season to be festive! Decorating is a rite of passage during the holiday season. However, decorating in a way you enjoy is the most important part. The blow-up balloons and images of Santa Claus all over may not be the perfect way for your home. Don’t be discouraged! There are so many ways to make a space feel perfect for celebration. We even have the perfect inspiration for you. On the blog today, we are excited to be sharing new imagery of Lauren Meichtry’s, founder of Elsie Home, California-cool holiday home tour.

Lauren’s personal design aesthetic really shines through the space with hints of holiday that aren’t too overwhelming for those that aren’t wanting to be cliche. From layered textures and a variety of different materials, Lauren hasn’t shied away from packing a lot of design elements into this small bungalow space. She recently downsized from a large home to this lovely apartment space, so she has a ton of great insight and inspiration into making small-space design and style work.

Design tips:

  • I’m a big fan of neutral Christmas decor, as it naturally blends in with your home while simultaneously adding a festive touch. I use a lot of natural wood pieces on my Christmas tree, as well as around my home. For me it’s more about leaning into the season, rather than letting it dominate or swallow your home decor.
  • A common mistake I see is the “more is more” mentality when it comes to Christmas decor. Unless you’re signing up to be featured on the Great Christmas Light Fight, I think your home should just be sprinkled with holiday decor. Less is most definitely more, and I show that in my personal space.
  • I love incorporating greenery into my tablescape as a simple way to display festivity. I like to lay garland over a fabric runner and then layer in candles and small hand-carved wood Christmas trees.
  • For design, I tend to go more towards a winter wonderland feel over the traditional red and green Christmas decor. I’ll use natural oak, porcelain, a small amount of gold/brass and a lot of greenery.
  • I always include a lot of candles in my styling and I ramp it up over the holidays. Candles create instant coziness. Layer in height variation by using candlesticks like large brass candlesticks.

We have fallen in love with this modern holiday home tour. It is the perfect combination of festive and chic. Looking for even more decorating inspiration after seeing this? Read about Interior Designers Sharing Their Tips On How To Tastefully Decorate For The Holidays!

Who doesn’t love a good transformation?! We know we do, so when we saw how this designer transformed a drab cottage into a dreamy Airbnb we knew we needed to share it! Not only is this transformation shocking in the best way but we still can’t believe that these photos are the same property. Scroll on to see how they transformed a drab cottage into a dreamy Airbnb!

The Interior Designer Tiffany Leigh Piotrowski of Tiffany Leigh Design shares,

The house overall had dated finishes and furnishings when we purchased the property, and had been left in a state of disrepair. Dark panelled walls made the space feel smaller and darker than it needed to be, and awkward layout choices in the kitchen and the bathroom compromised the function greatly. We purchased the house as an estate-style sale, so we had a lot of old furniture and belongings to clear out to start to see the potential of the space. Our goal for the house was to create a coastal retreat where people could come and really feel at ease.

We wanted to take the space from a dark cottage in the woods to a bright beach shack. The biggest issue with the kitchen was an awkward layout, with the fridge partially blocking the side door, a teeny tiny gas fridge, a peninsula cutting the small area in half, and a cramped eating area. The carpet flooring in the kitchen was problematic from a cleanliness standpoint as well.  Our goal for the kitchen was to increase function and also give the space an aesthetic identity that matched its beachy location.

One thing that we did was increase the size of the pass-through opening above the sink (once the exterior window before an addition was put on the cottage in the 90s!). This brought in a lot more natural light. Think about increasing the size of your window if it’s within the budget. The white subway tiles are light, bright and glossy, so they reflect and bounce light. Polished surfaces will add a little extra shine and lightness to your space. We rejigged the layout and moved the eating area to another area of the house to allow us to move the fridge to the blank wall with a full-height pantry. Pantries help to maximize storage in a small space. If you have a dark kitchen, try removing some upper cabinetry, which can feel heavy as well as cast shadows.

Since this is a short-term rental, we don’t need a tone of kitchen items. So, we removed all upper cabinets along the long wall and the pantry helped us to do this while still providing guests with some storage. I removed the peninsula altogether to keep the space more open and accessible. The dated carpeting was ripped up in favour of a light wood-look laminate. We added a dishwasher. In my opinion, dishwashers are super important in this dreamy Airbnb because people really want to be able to unwind and relax.

We created the floating shelves using building lumber to display some decorative objects. We selected hardwearing materials like quartz countertops (Montauk by Hanstone) for durability in a vacation home. While these were a splurge, we saved elsewhere. Like using ready to assemble cabinets and less expensive appliances, which also take a beating from renters. The white subway tiles are light, bright and glossy, so they reflect and bounce light. Polished surfaces will add a little extra shine and lightness to your space. I tiled the backsplash myself as a DIY to keep costs lower.

While we kept the majority of the space neutral, we added a pop of fun colour on the side door leading to the barbecue. To aid with the coastal feel, we clad the old popcorn ceiling in tongue and groove panelling. Things tend to get broken in a dreamy Airbnb so opt for inexpensive decorative objects. A runner from IKEA was inexpensive, easy to replace, and helped add some texture to the space.  For artwork, we had commissioned paintings of the beach by a local artist, Stephanie Fehrenbach, based on some photos I had taken of the beach.

Wow! Talk about a transformation. What single action do you think transformed this space the most?

Painting the walls a nice, fresh white had the biggest impact on this space. The dated panelling and wallpaper made the space feel out of touch and dark. The white paint allowed the wood ceilings to really shine. This created a nice, bright base for the coastal aesthetic we were hoping to achieve.

We would love to know more about you. How did you get started in interior design and what makes you different?

I was in university heading down a different path when I realized I wasn’t following my true passion. Immediately upon graduating, I enrolled in design school and got hired part-time working for a famous Canadian designer’s firm. They hired me full-time when I graduated and I worked there for 4.5 years. Then launched my own firm in 2019! I think what makes me different is that I really believe that good design is achievable at any price point.

While my design services cater to projects with larger budgets, I provide a tone of free advice, design tips, and DIYs on my blog and YouTube channel so that everyone can achieve a bit of the TLD magic. I know what it’s like to have to complete a personal project on a budget (in fact, the cottage was one!) and want to help people who may not have the resources to hire a designer right now.

What would you describe your interior design style as?

I always say my style is California Cool meets Little House on the Prairie. Which is a funny way of saying that I love the coastal and contemporary aesthetic of Cali, with a healthy dose of primitive antiques and rustic vintage objects. In fact, we have our own vintage shop TLD Curated which drops a collection of specially selected vintage finds each season!

Where do you turn for inspiration in your everyday life?

We just moved to a lakehouse on 100′ of shoreline on Lake Simcoe. Since moving, I’ve found I’m getting more inspiration from stepping away from the screen and apps, and enjoying a paddleboard out on the water. Travel is another big source of inspiration for me, and I can’t wait until we can travel again!

Have you ever heard of the interior design style coastal meets farmhouse? Well, if the answer is no then you are not alone. If we had to describe it we would say, think that the best of both coastal decor and timeless farmhouse design elements meet to create a classic decor style. This El Segundo home that we have the pleasure of sharing with you all today features both of these design styles in the best way possible. Not only do we have a gallery of images of the stunning home, but we also had the pleasure of interviewing the home owners. Scroll on to hear from the homeowners Kim & Scott Nichol with Nicole Real Estate.

Where is your home located, and how was the home buying process for you?

Our home is located in El Segundo, California. People refer to our community as ‘Mayberry By The Sea’. My husband Scot (a South Bay real estate agent with Compass), was contacted to possibly list or rent the vacant run down home. When he saw the property, (and 9000 sq ft lot that is hard to come by), his remodeling wheels started turning. With much uncertainty on how we would fund the project, we decided to buy it.

What was the condition of your home when you purchased it? Did you do any major renovations?

The home was borderline condemned when we bought it, but this was our 4th major remodel as a couple, and we gutted it. My husband is extremely talented at visualizing the potential of every home he walks into. He’s the master of re-working floor plans and exterior home design concepts, and then I handle the esthetics and interior details.

If you had to describe your interior design style, what would you say?

Oh man, our style is a true hybrid, but if we had to pick a lane to stay in, it would be coastal. There is a hint of modern farm, and the exterior feels like a beach cottage, but my personal style is boho at heart, and if we were millionaires I would be drenched in Anthropologie and Free People 24/7.

Where do you go to gain inspiration for your home decor?

One of our favorite homes of all time is ‘The Lily Pad Cottage’. Kelly doesn’t miss a beat on coastal style. We appreciate contemporary and flashy homes, but there is something so important to me as a mother, that a home feels comfortable and inviting.

What room is your favorite, and why?

That’s easy… the kitchen. The polished nickel fixtures, the rattan accents, the splash of wallpaper, and all the shades of grey set the tone for our entire home. We’re really proud of how that space came together.

Any plans for future renovations, or is your home complete?

Yes! Our bedroom! It has always been an afterthought in every home we have built. We put our time and funding into the major spaces like the kitchen, and patio. But our goal for next year is to spice up the master bedroom with some fresh decor and add a fireplace… stand by!

In our time sharing lives greatest moments we rarely get to share sneak peaks into people’s everyday lives. Today, we are so excited to break the normal, and share a little glimpse into married life with these newlyweds as they share some captures from their eclectic new jersey home. Scroll on to see their sparks flying across every room of their house! Not to mention the home itself is so gorgeous we are shocked we haven’t seen it all over Pinterest yet!

The Photographer, Amanda Noel shares,

This intimate in-home session at Tommy and Joy’s Eclectic style home was a dream. I was back home in New Jersey, where I am from when I had this in-home couples session. Joy is my sister’s best friend and, I was so excited to shoot her and her husband! They recently got married, and are just so in love, which made it so fun and easy for me to capture these moments!

Joy and Tommy live out in the countryside of New Jersey. Their house looked like it was straight out of a magazine. Every single detail and decor piece was thought through and all came together so perfectly. Their house had hints of vintage, modern and eclectic vibes and I was obsessed with every little corner! Their house was so curated and detail-oriented that it felt like we rented an Air BnB for this shoot but it was just their beautiful home.

Tommy and Joy are a young couple but they have such unique and sophisticated taste when it comes to style! I was obsessed with them and their house equally. Their outfits were so cute too and matched their home perfectly.

These two were so easy to shoot! They were so comfortable and natural in front of the camera, which makes my job easier. In-home, sessions are always a lot of fun and I feel like it makes the couple more comfortable being in their own space. They played around their house, made some coffee and Tommy brought out his guitar to play some music for us too. We ended the session with a pillow fight on the bed for some fun and playful photos. I will forever be obsessed with this eclectic in-home session with Tommy and Joy. I will also never stop dreaming about their beautiful home!

We can almost guarantee that if you were to google “holiday decor” your search would result in a flood of sparkly plastics red and white holiday decor items. Not the vibe you were going for is it? We are all too familiar with the struggle of finding tasteful pieces to decorate for the holidays. That’s why we enlisted help from some of our favorite interior designers, and we have to say these tips are gold! So good, we know we will be coming back to this article year after year to reference it!

Stick to a theme

When decorating for the holidays, consistency and sticking to your aesthetic is key. For example, if the decorations that you have around your home are mostly gold and neutral, then carry that theme over while you’re setting/decorating the table for your holiday meal. – Bandd Design

Less is more when you decorate for the holidays

You don’t have to go all out and cover the whole house in seasonal pieces when you decorate for the holidays. Add touches and a few statement pieces, such as a wreath or centerpiece, that embrace the holiday to get your home in the holiday spirit without overwhelming your space. – Bandd Design

Not everything has to be plastic

Yes, having a real Christmas tree or pumpkins can be messy, but try not to take the plastic route all over when it comes to holiday decor. Having real greenery for your garland, wreath, or anything along those lines gives the space such a more thoughtful, polished feel. – Bandd Design

A little goes a long way

You don’t need bright red and green covering every inch of your home for it to read holiday.  One way to keep things tasteful is to use a neutral color palette rather than a colorful one.  I love incorporating wooden objects, felt garland, and miniature pine trees to transition my home for the holidays.  I typically remove a few items from my open shelves and replace them with these neutral holiday pieces so my space doesn’t appear cluttered.  Texture and layers also create coziness, so swap out your throw pillows with softer fabrics like boucle and add a faux fur throw to complete the look. – Elsie Home

Determine your Style

Ok, first of all- let’s get something straight. I LOVE Christmas, but I hate traditional Christmas decor. All the colors, and sparkling snow and bright red and green and blow up yard decorations kind of makes my eyes bleed. Call me the grinch, but I like to keep it simple during the holidays. Here are my tips on how to be festive but tasteful. – Kate Lester Interiors

Pick a “vibe”

Maybe you are into vintage nutcrackers, or maybe you love a more neutral, coastal holiday vibe. I think it’s important to figure out what you are most drawn to and then run with it. Just grabbing any and every holiday decoration at the store that you like can really quickly have your house looking like the yard from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Kate Lester Interiors

Pick 3 wrapping papers

Each year, my daughter and I pick 3-4 wrapping papers that all tie together and work with our overall vibe. Last year it was brown paper and balck and white stripes and a solid red. Then, when all of the gifts are wrapped under the tree it’s really cohesive and pretty to look at. Santa, obviously, does not abide by my décor rules, so he wraps his gifts in really cool star wars paper. Kate Lester Interior

Determine your color palette

I live for neutrals, so I am all about texture and layering, and then allow our tree to be the focal point. Because we use all mis-matched ornaments that are super sentimental to our family, it’s a hodgepodge of color and texture, so I let that shine and keep the other décor in the home more neutral. Kate Lester Interiors

Let your kids do their thing

In their own space, that is! I give my daughter her own mini tree and window decals and reindeer bell garland, and she can go to town in her room! We decorate the tree in the living room as a family, and that’s our really special holiday memory every year, talking about how we remember getting each ornament and the memories we made! Kate Lester Interiors

design @katelesterhome photo by @amybartlam

Add natural pieces that reflect the season

Try adding dried leaves or magnolia branches to your floral arrangements in the fall, or pine branches, pomegranates, and pepper berries in the winter. The use of simple greenery and a few twinkle lights can add the perfect amount of holiday cheer to your home. You can also add some deep jewel toned accents such as throw pillows or decorative bowls. – Anne Carr Design

Whenever we get a chance to interview a girl boss, or two for that matter, we are always so excited to hear what they have to say about their business. Today on the blog, is no different. We are so excited to hear from the women behind Light and Dwell interior design studio. Brace yourself, because their work design work will blow you away. We are no experts, but from our perspective, their style is one that everyone can appreciate, and marvel at. Scroll on to hear a little Q&A with the founders, and a behind the scenes look at what makes their business so special.

Read on for a little back story behind the women at Light and Dwell, provided by our friends at a Design Partnership

Light and Dwell was created in 2015 when Aymee approached Molly about going into business together. Aymee and Molly have known each other for several years and worked closely together in Young Life College at Oregon State University. Throughout their time working with college students, they recognized their shared heart for relationships/people, and all things beautiful. Over the past years, Light and Dwell has evolved into a Full-Service Interior Design Studio that serves clients all over the country. Light and Dwell is located in Corvallis, Oregon, but now has team members globally.  They are known for their Pacific Northwest style, which translates through various design styles from Minimal Modern, English Tudor, Updated Traditional, and Modern Mountain. Their love for creating beautiful homes runs deep and isn’t limited to the homes themselves, they believe deeply in creating spaces where every client thrives and feels their best. It’s in the transformation where the magic happens.

Q.1 – The story about how the two of you met, is so fun! How does your history together help your business and clients?

We have longevity in the relationship, we’ve been working together for over ten years. We’re also friends, we really care about each other and each other’s families. There is a mutual respect and understanding of each other’s capacities, unique contributions, and roles. A lot of people don’t get into business with their friends, but for us, it has been a really great thing and if anything has grown us closer together. We laugh and joke constantly, but we also work extremely hard.

Q.2 – What was the first project you took on as a company and how have you evolved since then?

Our first project was for a local friend, who was nice enough to entrust us with their home and essentially let us “practice” on them. They are the nicest people, and we’re forever grateful!

Q.3 – You mentioned that you both love working with people, how has this company helped shape who you are today?

It’s really fun for us to work with all types of people, all across the country. Most of our jobs are remote, so we’re working with all different teams. Relationships are really important to a healthy job, and when there’s a great team, the energy and collaboration is one of the best parts of our job. The Light and Dwell team is such a fun group of people – we’re a smaller team, so it’s fun to be intimately involved in everyone’s lives. We really care about our team.

Q.4 – If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

Failure is going to happen, and it’s okay. Use your failures to push yourself to be even better both personally and in business. I would also say, it’s okay to ask for help and say “I don’t know.”

Q.5 – What inspires your love of interior design, and how do you strive to be different from others?

Molly: Being in a home that is innovative, well-curated, and yet comfortable at the same time makes me excited to be in this field. I love that no project is the same, and every project is uniquely meshed with our clients’ personal style and Light and Dwell’s style. Our goal is to try new things without being pushy and to create designs that haven’t been seen before. We strive to be different from others by having a Pacific Northwest twinge. Light and Dwell has the ability to design minimal modern designs all the way to classic traditional designs while pairing vintage goods to all design styles, and that’s what makes us unique!

How would you describe the style of your home?

Interior design professionals would describe our house as boho mid-century, but when I think about the style of our house, the words that come to my mind are cozy, peaceful, homey, minimal, desert-inspired and vibrant.

What inspired you to get a second home in Joshua Tree?

I always knew I wanted to buy a vacation home. But after living in San Francisco for a few years, I became even more serious about it. I wanted a peaceful place for my partner and me to escape the craziness of the city. I also have always loved hosting and creating unique experiences for others. So we decided to make our house a vacation retreat for everybody, not just the two of us.

How did you incorporate your love for Joshua Tree into your home decor?

Joshua Tree is the main inspiration for every design decision I made for our house. The design of our door, the wallpapers for the bedrooms, the plants, the wall art, and so many other small touches in the house. I wanted our house to be a desert retreat house, not just any retreat house and I hope we did a good job with that.

Did you have a hard time opening up your home for others to stay at?

Not at all. I love hosting, and nothing brings me more joy than sharing a fun experience with other people. Most of our guests are just like us – busy professionals who are looking for a fun and peaceful getaway. Many of them become more like friends than only guests after staying at our house and getting to know me more through exchanging messages on Airbnb.

If you could offer any advice to people looking into opening a vacation rental, what would it be?

Having a vacation rental is a lot of work! Do it because you love it, not because of the financial opportunity.

What is your favorite room in the house?

I’m obsessed with our master bedroom. When I was living in Joshua Tree (to get our house ready for hosting) I spent a lot of time in that room. I would do my makeup there, read a book or take a selfie for the gram! The lighting is really gorgeous there.

What is the story behind your front door? It’s so chic; we are obsessed with it!

Thank you so much! We love our front door. We wanted a front door that represented the name of our house: Moon & Bloom. We also wanted to incorporate the same colors and textures we used inside of our house. But more than anything, we wanted our front door to be very inviting and a great first impression for our guests. We usually get an “OMG I love your front door” message from our guests right after they check-in and we love that reaction!

If you’re anything like us, you’re already trying to make a reservation to stay here for a girls weekend! While you’re packing your bags, check out more home inspo we’re loving lately – like this fixer-upper turned modern chic home!
