“Some love stories are so timeless they feel like they belong in the movies – Rachel and Ben’s is one of them. Together since middle school, they’ve grown up side by side, creating a foundation of love, laughter, and adventure. So when we had the chance to document their engagement in one of the most iconic cities in the world, we knew it was going to be something special.”

“While we, and Rachel and Ben are all based in Indianapolis, we share a deep love for NYC. Their engagement session was originally planned for Newfields, one of our favorite spots back home, but after a few scheduling conflicts (hello, unpredictable Midwest weather!), we found out they were heading to New York for the weekend. It felt meant to be. With Adam catching an early-morning flight, we quickly pivoted and mapped out the perfect plan – starting in Brooklyn and ending with golden hour in Central Park.”

The Photographer Shares, 

“The session kicked off in the soft morning light at the Brooklyn Bridge. But first, we had to stop at the famous DUMBO viewpoint – because is it really an NYC engagement session without those cobbled streets and brick facades framing the skyline? Even in the hustle and bustle of the city, we focused on keeping the session intimate and relaxed, reading Rachel and Ben’s body language and adjusting before they even noticed. That’s a huge part of our process – making sure every couple feels at ease, no matter how many people are around or how grand the setting may be. And Adam? He absolutely nailed it, guiding them through each shot while making sure the background was filled with romance, not distractions.”

The Photographer Continues, 

“After soaking in Brooklyn, we hopped on the subway and made our way to Manhattan – because, let’s be real, nothing says NYC like a train ride together. The day was unseasonably warm for fall, but that only made the energy of the city feel even more electric. Rachel and Ben had a quick outfit change, and we spent the rest of the session strolling through Central Park, letting them take it all in. They reminisced about their years together, laughing over memories from when they first started dating as kids. It was effortless, fun, and a true reflection of who they are – classic, joyful, and full of love.”

1. Choose a location with meaning.

“The setting for your engagement photos should reflect who you are as a couple. Whether it’s where you had your first date or a destination that holds sentimental value, the backdrop should resonate with your story. For destination engagement shoots, embrace the local culture and beauty—shooting in a location like Italy adds layers of romance and timeless style (but I’m probably biased because I love working in Italy!).”

2. Timing is everything.

“Light can completely transform your photos. Schedule your session during golden hour—just after sunrise or before sunset—for the most flattering, beautiful imagery. If you’re doing a destination shoot, consider the season and the destination’s natural light to ensure you capture the best possible moments. And definitely consult your photographer as they will know best!”

3. Coordinate – don’t match!

“For your attire, aim for coordinating outfits that complement each other rather than matching exactly. You want to look cohesive, not like you’re in a uniform. And for destination shoots, consider colors and styles that work with the scenery—flowing fabrics and soft neutrals are great against a backdrop like the Amalfi Coast or rolling vineyards in Tuscany.”

4. Incorporate your destination’s charm.

“A destination engagement session allows you to showcase elements of your chosen location. Whether it’s the cobblestone streets of Florence, the cliffs of Santorini, the vibrant markets of Marrakech, or stunning Old San Juan in Puerto Rico, embrace the environment! Your photos will not only celebrate your love, but also highlight the adventure of traveling together.”

5. Relax and trust the photographer.

“This moment is about celebrating your connection, so let go of the pressure to pose perfectly. Trust your photographer to guide you and capture authentic moments. If you’re abroad, work with a photographer who knows how to find the hidden gems and unique angles of your chosen destination to elevate your shoot. And use the engagement session as the way to get to know your photographer so that on the wedding day you are all comfortable and there is a mutual energy of confidence and familiarity. “Tess and Ciaran were looking to celebrate their engagement with a moody PNW beach adventure vibe. Tess had grown up visiting Rockaway beach in Oregon with her family at their beach side cabin, so it felt fitting to escape that way together and explore the coast line a bit further north.

We met at a cliffside location to capture them with their pup,Juno, for some dramatic views before heading to a beach access. Here, the couple had plenty of room to run and play in the sand. They weren’t shy about being playful and had an absolute blast, being fully committed to their PNW engagement shoot experience together”.

This engagement at the Greencrest Manor is everything,

The inspiration for this engagement shoot planned and designed by Jeannene Lillie Events and captured beautifully by The Fourniers was to celebrate Christine and Tony’s engagement with a stylized picnic and the stunning Greencrest Manor.

During the planning phase, the couple shared that they would love to have included some fruits that are a part of their Vietnamese heritage. When designing the shoot, Jeannene made sure to include some of the following fruits: paloma, papaya, starfruit, dragon fruit, and mango.

Another way this couple honored their Vietnamese heritage was by wearing the traditional Vietnamese outfit. The áo dài, which, for the wedding, is worn by the bride and groom. The bride wears a red one and the groom wears a blue one. They are complete with a matching tiered headpiece, called a khăn vấn. This is sort of an open-top turban made of concentric layers of fabric.

As a way to include their individual relationship, the couple also celebrated some of their favorite hobbies and date night must-haves by bringing along some of their favorite board games and boba tea! Christine and Tony spent their engagement session popping numerous bottles of champagne, wanting through the lush manor gardens, and enjoying a delicious spread of delicious snacks!

This beautiful couple describes the moments behind this incredible proposal at Southall,

Chris Dingman, CEO of The Dingman Group, previously attended an event at Southall hosted by Leila Lewis of Be Inspired PR, where he became fascinated with the grounds and what they could represent for him in the future. Little did he know, it would also be a monumental moment for the venue, as the first proposal anyone has ever done there! Krista Joy Photography captured these moments in a way that perfectly paired love…and fantastic use of light. And of course, Leila had to be the one to feature this spectacular day.

“That really is where it all started for me. I imagined all of this that day—seriously! I’m a beekeeper in training with 10,000 bees arriving in May (a gift from Jessica). The fact that Southall also has the tastiest honey on the planet and a place I can always go for advice is super sweet (pun intended). If it weren’t for the bees, the surprise wouldn’t have been possible.

My excuse to get her to Southall was to meet their beekeeper briefly on the way to date night. It made total sense to her that I could drop by and check out the apiary, learn how they make honey, and meet the beekeeper. The reality was the beekeeper wasn’t on-site that day! The center of the sundial on the hill, next to the apple orchard, bees, wildflowers, and lake view, was an absolutely perfect location to ask my favorite person to marry me.”

As the love story continues,

Jessica had no idea she was about to experience one of the best days of her life, even if the trip for the honey would have been worth it as well! She explained the feeling perfectly to truly capture the moment of this proposal at Southall.

“We’ve fallen in love with Franklin since moving here last year, and Southall captures everything this special place has to offer – the scenic beauty, wildlife, farming, southern traditions — saying YES to this man couldn’t have been in a more perfect place, we can’t wait to celebrate our engagement every year at that very spot.”

Once the proposal concluded, the memories did not end for Chris and Jessica. As a remembrance of this momentous occasion for them and the venue, Southall provided a gift that would keep this moment alive and flourishing forever. “Southall gifted us with wildflower seed bombs from the property; we’re currently planting them all over our property so we can be reminded of that beautiful moment every day”

Andra wore two gowns–one of which gave us old-world romance.  The For Love & Lemons gown with its blush tulle swayed as they danced among flowers, spilling champagne from her cup. The couple will wed later in 2022 in D.C.

Jaqueline and Ronnie’s connection is truly beautiful. Their love became ever stronger through the hardest times, especially when walking side by side wasn’t possible. Jaqueline was always by Ronnie’s side, pushed him in his wheelchair, stood behind him in his walker, then beside him in his crutches after his motorcycle accident. Being able to walk side by side at their engagement session after a whole year of not being able brought tears to everyone’s eyes. This was definitely a huge milestone for this sweet, strong couple.
